Social Skills


SOAR Offers 3 Different Social Skills Groups that meet monthly.
        Ages 7-11 
         12-15
               16-and up 
Each group meets monthly on Saturdays to enjoy a social group together. Activities have varied such as game day, bowling, laser tag, painting and pizza, ice cream social etc. Any new suggestions or ideas are welcome and encourged!

Autism Teaching Strategies - Free social skills downloads broken down into categories: Communication/Relationships, Emotions, Communication/Relationships/Emotions

iBooks Author - If you are a Mac user, you can download iBooks Author ("Create amazing multi-touch books for iPad") from the Mac app store and create your own social stories (and more).

PBIS World - This website explains why you should use a social story, when to use a social story and how to  use a social story.  It also has many resources for support in creating a social story. 

Social Skill Builder - Autism and Special Needs software.  Contains software for preschool age through young adults.  Smart phone apps are also available. 

Tar Heel Reader - a collection of free, easy-to-read, and accessible books on a wide range of topics. Each book can be speech enabled and accessed using multiple interfaces, including touch screens, the IntelliKeys with custom overlays, and 1 to 3 switches.  You may write your own books using pictures from the huge collection at Flickr or pictures you upload. All books should be complete, edited, and revised to the best of your ability before publishing them to the site. While you are working on them, please save them as drafts.
