Waivers

Medicaid Home and Community-based waiver programs allow people greater flexibility to choose where they want to live and to use services and supports that bet suit their needs. Services that are provided must represent a least-restrictive treatment alternative. Each home and community-based waiver has specific service packages and eligibility requirements (see list below).
Waiver opportunities are dependent on funding, and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis through the request for services registry.

Children's Choice - offers supplemental support to children with developmental disabilities who currently live at home with their families or with a foster family.  Waiver participants are eligible for all medically necessary Medicaid services, including Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) screenings.  This waiver package is designed for maximum flexibility.  In addition to the medically necessary services waiver services funding can also be used for:
  • Support Coordination (required case management)
  • Family Support - services provided directly to the child
  • Center-Based Respite - services provided on a short-term basis to children unable to care for themselves so that their caregivers can have some relief
  • Environmental Accessibility Adaptations - physical adaptations to home or vehicle
  • Family Training - training and education services provided to the participant's family by professional organization
New Opportunities Waiver - The mission of the NOW is to utilize the principles of Self Determination to supplement the family and/or community supports while supporting dignity, quality of life, and security in the everyday lives of people while maintain the Recipient in the community.  The NOW includes an array of services aimed at assisting people to live as independently as possible.
Residential Options Waiver (ROW) - offers people of all ages services designed to support them to move from ICFs/DD and nursing facilities to community-based settings, and to serve as an alternative to institutionalization.  
Supports Waiver - offers focused, individualized vocational services to people age 18 and older who otherwise would require the level of care of an Intermediate Care Facility for the Developmentally Disabled (ICF/DD)
